Jihad means ‘to struggle’ not ‘holy war’: Vaibhav Mishra

“The best Jihad is the word of Justice in front of the oppressive sultan”, said Prophet Muhammad.
Jihad means ‘struggling in the way of God’ but in recent times it has become a controversial word, equivalent to terror. The basic root of the word in Arabic means ‘to struggle’ and the struggle can be of any form social, political, economic, spiritual and many other forms.
Jihad is aimed at attaining peace by fighting against all kinds of injustices, inequalities and establishing a society of prosperity & felicity. When Prophet Muhammad is asked by a companion that what’s a jihad? He answers that it is the fighting the self (the ego) to overcome temptations towards evil.
What the perpetrators of evil and terror are preaching and showcasing the people of the world in the name of jihad is cunning and shrewd way of justifying their acts of violence for their mean gains. Jihad is a defensive measure, to be performed under strict rules laid down in Islam. How can the almighty be pleased with one’s act of cruelty, killing innocent men and women, destroying the places of worship of non-Islamic people, kidnapping etc. to make the whole world Islamic when the almighty in the Holy Quran has clearly revealed to all that it is he who has made the entire universe.

Jihad came to become the most extensively abused word due to the manipulation of the definition of word by the Western Capitalist forces and due the sheer greed for power and money from the people within the Muslim community. When CIA recruited thousands of Afghani, supplied them arms and ammunition, stocked them financially and provided whatever the help needed of any form just to resist the advancement of Soviet forces.
As revealed by the National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski, “the CIA gave arms and ammunition to Mujahedeen…and sophisticated in art of terror, these men successfully drove out the Soviets, but also waged terrible war on their own people killing atleast 45,000 people in Kabul alone.”
But as the aim of western powers get accomplished, sources starts to run dry, the weed which they let to grow, evolved it into thick forest and now these men suddenly left with no wine turned at heir guns against the same whom made them, cultivating their own ways of procuring finance they grow opium, kidnapping, an Air India flight was taken as hostage and the actions reached their peak when they attacked the land of their creators, 9/11 attack, this devilish act shocks the world.
Though the debate will continue but we must remember that extremism occurs in any religion, and one must be stopped from acceding into it, but to frame the whole community as suspicious on the basis of act of some is also cruelty. What the Buddha had preached to us is to do good to others but see what is happening in Myanmar, but can one label the whole community responsible, as at the same time we have the Dalai Lama spreading joy yet continuing his struggle against the aggression of China.

One should try to do what the almighty says in the holy Quran “We have appointed a law and a practice for every one of you. Had God willed, He would have made you a single community, but He wanted to test you regarding what has come to you. So compete with each other in doing good. Every one of you will return to God and He will inform you regarding the things about which you differed.” (Surat al-Ma’ida, 48)
